General Info StylesRipped Heart shows at Olde Jamestowne Hall are typically 'punk shows with variety'. A lot of the bands are 'punk' (including many sub-genres and broad definitions of punk) and maybe some ska, metal, goth, new wave, industrial, rock, hardcore, metal-core, rock or others.

You may not get a reply right away. I reply on a 'need to' basis and as my time permits. The 1st reply you get may be several months later with a show date.

If the show is at Olde Jamestowne Hall, 7035 Swan Creek Rd, Saginaw MI 48609. The typical Saturday show there has 10 or 11 bands. Bands start at 4pm and play to about 11:30. Each band has the stage 40-45 minutes on and off (to set up, play and get out of the way).
Ripped Heart has a full PA system. We have a full range speaker stack, including subs, 16 channel board, we mic the drums and the amps too (plus DI's). It is not just vocal PA. We also have experience to know how to use it.
Don't expect to get any. This is how I work paying out gas money. At the end of the show, after I have a chance to count the door, if the venue and expenses are covered and money is left, I start to pay out to bands. How much is available to pay is depends on how much came in at the door. In determaining what split each band gets I try to be as fair as possible. I take into account how far each band drove (everything else the same, a band from 3 hours away will get paid before a band for 30 minutes away), how much each band promoted and drew for the show (everything else the same, a band that promoted a lot and drew people to the show will get paid before a band who didn't promote the show or draw), how many times has the band played for Ripped Heart before (everything else the same, a band playing their 6th show for Ripped Heart will get paid before a band playing their 1st show with Ripped Heart). Bands who are at the whole show, supporting the other bands, easy to work with and making it a fun show are more likely to get paid then a band who is only there for their set time. Bands have to be there at the end of the show after I've had to chance to count the door. I don't send checks or get it to you later. If you were going to get some gas money but you left early, the others still around will get your part.
Ripped Heart provides water on the on stage for the bands. Ripped Heart sometimes sells pop at the shows. Bands can help themselves to a pop as well. We generally don't provide food at the Hall. Out of state bands if you are staying the night at our apartment we usually try to have some food for you.
When you are invited to a show, I will tell you approximately what time the show starts and ends. I assume every band invited is willing and able to play any slot in that show. If you have a time limitation for the show please let me know when you confirm or as soon as possible. I will try to send the schedule for the show to all the bands about 3-6 weeks before the show.
When I make the schedule I try to look at the big picture. I want every band playing to have a good time and be glad they came. I also want to try to make sure the regular attenders enjoy the show. They will have a chance to see some new bands and favorites from previous shows. I also want the new people attending (maybe friends of your band playing for the first time) to see some other bands they may like as well. I hope for every band playing the show will be back for another Ripped Heart show. You will most likely play a different time slot everytime you come back.
When you are booked let me know if you have any time limitation of when you can play. It is easier to work around everybody's schedules if I know when you are booked rather than after the schedule has been sent out to all of the bands.
Time Limitation is because of work or something that means you HAVE TO get the show late or leave early otherwise you won't be able to play the show at all, maybe for work, class or family obligation. I do not view a time limitation as 'we want to play when everybody is there'.
Please do not ask for a 'good spot'. The biggest factors in determining what a good spot, is the quality and draw of the band in that spot. At most of the Ripped Heart shows there are people there from beginning to end who want to see bands play.
If your band deserves the best spot of the show, I probably know that already. Besides if you deserve the best slot, no matter where you are scheduled people will make the effort to see you play. The people who see you play will be blown away and make sure they let everybody else know the next time you play.
If you don't deserve the best spot... then why in the world are you asking for it? If you are from the area and ask for 'a good spot', I take that to mean you don't think your band has a good draw. If your band doesn't draw then you should be glad for the opportunity to start building a fan base and make the most of it.
